Green Screen & After Effects - Barry Island

In the interest of developing our editing methods, we went on a trip to Barry Island where we completed a course on green screening and using Adobe After Effects (as well as some further work on Adobe Premier Pro).

To start, we looked at some previous music videos that featured a significant amount of green screen work, as well as some previous work that had been done at the course. This gave us an idea of just how much editing is involved in the production of some of the high end music videos.

For the rest of the course, we were to create our own music video to a song. This meant recording ourselves in front of a green screen, finding props, backgrounds and other effects to try and recreate our chosen music video. (We chose 'Year 3000' by Busted).
When recording using the green screen, we had to ensure there were no hotspots or shadows on the screen. This meant using a light off to one side to make the colour of the screen consistent.
Finally, once the footage had been imported and cut correctly we had to use chromo keying so that the green screen could be removed, leaving just the person acting.
